Release Pens

What You Need for a Release Pen

A release pen is only as good as its weakest section, so most builds draw on a mix of the following:

• Netting and fencing – galvanised wire netting in 19mm to 50mm mesh for the base and lower sections where predator resistance matters most, or jumbo release pen netting for the upper sides, where a lighter net is quicker to handle over long runs. Many pens use both.
• Electric fencing – 7 strand electric fence wire, insulators and a fencer unit, run around the outside of the main boundary to deter foxes and badgers.
• Feeding and watering – hopper feeders such as the Emperor Feeder, and automatic drinkers like the Watermaster 2E or Tripod Drinker.
• Fixings and tools – hog rings and hog ring pliers, U and J pins, and galvanised staples for securing netting to posts and straining wire.
• Access – Fox Grid Pop Holes and gate handles for controlled entry and exit points.
