What is the difference between automatic drinkers and hand filled drinkers? 

Automatic drinkers connect to a water supply and refill themselves using valves or float mechanisms. They keep a steady water level with minimal labour. Hand filled drinkers rely on manual refilling and suit smaller pens, remote locations, or early brooding where flow rates need tight control. 

How do I choose the right drinker system for my rearing pens? 

Match the drinker to bird age, pen size, and access to water. Auto systems reduce labour and give consistent supply for larger groups. Hand filled units offer more control for day-old chicks or pens without pipework. Accessories such as saddles, connectors, and pipe fittings help tune the layout to each shed. 

What water pressure is needed for most drinker setups? 

Most automatic systems run best on low to moderate pressure. Excess pressure causes overfilling and spills. Many keepers use header tanks or pressure reducers to stabilise flow. Keeping pressure steady is key to clean bedding and healthy birds.

How often should drinkers be cleaned? 

Clean daily in hot weather and every few days in cooler periods. Algae and feed dust build up quickly and will contaminate water if left unchecked. Automatic lines benefit from regular flushing. Clean water is one of the simplest ways to prevent disease.
