It comes flatpacked which makes it really quick and easy to get up and running! Here, we show you how to set up a Magpie Larsen Trap. The benefits of using live catch Larsen Traps Virtually all wild birds are protected by law – meaning that if you were to cause harm to them it would be a criminal offence. For this reason, it’s very important you use live catch methods to combat pests. Our live catch magpie traps are naturally popular with farmers and gamekeepers because protecting their assets from birds like magpies can save them lots of money and hassle! Magpies can cause a range of problems for farmers. They are omnivores and like to feed on crops, insects and seeds. Magpies have also been known to damage agricultural crops and feed on young or weak livestock like newborn lambs and chicks. For these reasons, it is vitally important to quickly manage magpie populations. The Live Catch Larsen Trap is simple and efficient to set up – meaning you can get it set up and start using it in next to no time! There are just four simple steps to get the trap erected, and a couple more to implement when you come to use the trap! How to Set Up a Magpie Larsen Trap Step 1 Remove all packaging and check you have all parts. Within the package you should find the main structure, cable ties to close the trap and instructions. Step 2 Lay the trap down in front of you and pull the upper section towards you to open the structure into its rectangular form. Step 3 Open the separation panel beneath the two trap doors. This will hold the trap in place. At this point, do a quick walk around and visually check that the structure is in order. Step 4 Now, use the cable ties to close the two opposing open ends. Tie the edges of the open doors to the main framework. You might choose to do this trap-side up, or on its side as shown in the demonstration photo below. Once the trap is shut, face it the right way up and test the trap doors by pushing them. They should easily push down with gentle pressure, then spring back up when you let go. Step 5 When you are placing your trap you now want to add a decoy bird to the compartment as shown below. Using a ‘bait’ bird will encourage target birds to enter the trap via the trap door on top of the trap. Once in, they won’t be able to get out! Step 6 By law you must ensure that your cool (decoy) bird has adequate food, water and shelter from the rain and sun (this is what the silver plate is for). For feed, we recommend using a Cage Cup and an automatic drinker for water. Need a hand?
