Effective warmth for young birds

The IR1 Ruby Heat Lamp Bulb gives a generous 250W of infrared heat. That makes it a practical choice for heating brooders, rearing pens and sheds through the first weeks of a bird’s life. The heat spreads evenly beneath the lamp, so chicks, poults and young pheasants or partridges can move in to warm up and step away when they’ve had enough.

Soft red light

The ruby glass cuts down bright white glare and gives a gentle red glow. Many keepers find this helps keep birds calm and settled under the lamp.

Setting up your lamp

• Holder: Use with our Standard Lamp Holder, which has a heat-resistant holder and a protective guard.
• Height: Hang the lamp on a chain or cord so you can raise it as the birds grow and need less heat.
• Reading your birds: Birds huddled tightly under the lamp are too cold, so lower it. Birds pushed out to the edges of the pen are too hot, so raise it. Birds spread evenly and moving about freely means the height is about right.
• Larger groups: Use more than one lamp so every bird can reach a warm spot without crowding.

Safety and care

• Always use the bulb in a suitable heat-resistant holder with a guard. Never let it touch bedding, litter or timber.
• Keep the bulb away from water and drinkers. Splashes on a hot bulb can cause it to fail.
• Let the bulb cool fully before handling or replacing it.
• Check cables, holders and fixings regularly during the rearing season.
