How to Set Up a Live Catch Cat Trap May 5, 2023 GamekeepingInstructional GuideVermin Control The Live Catch Cat Trap from Collins Nets is a humane way to capture unwanted cats and other small animals. Live catch traps allow you to release animals rather than killing them. Here, we show you how to set up a Live Catch Cat Trap! It’s really easy to get set up – so you can spend less time fiddling with the construction and have the trap working for you quicker! 1. Unpackage and open the structure The Collins Nets Live Catch Cat Trap will arrive flatpacked and all in one piece – making it quick and easy to set up. Simply pull up the handle on the top to open the structure until it is in its fully erected rectangular shape. 2. Thread clip through bars to lock off closed end Close the side which has the treadle plate nearer to it by weaving the bar through to lock off the door. This makes the Cat trap a single-door trap, which essentially means it’s a ‘one way in, no way out’ facility for unwanted intruders. Single-door traps are extremely easy to get working, and normally involve less risk of human error or the animal escaping on their own accord. Watch the below instructional video to see how product expert Chris threads the clip through the bars to lock off the door! 3. Push and lift open gate towards roof This is where you start the process of arming the trap. One the rear side door is locked off, lift the gate whilst it is folder up to the top of the roof. 4. Arm the treadle plate by attaching catch to the door Whilst holding the gate up at the top of the trap with one hand, you should pull back the catch on the top right corning of the tap nearest to you (assuming it is in front of you). You’ll feel and heart it lock into place as you rest the lifted gate on it. At this point, the treadle plate is armed – which is what intruders will step on when they enter the trap! 5. Ensure the treadle plate is set Before you get ahead of yourself and give yourself a pat on the back, it is important to ensure you have armed the trap correctly. Failure to arm the trap properly, or being misinformed on how it is triggered can cause you to accidentally set it off, or not arm it in the first place. Although you are unlikely to cause bodily harm to yourself if you set off a live catch trap, failure to set it correctly can result in you not trapping the cat as desired. Gently lift the plate to ensure it is sitting correctly. If it is your first time setting a live catch trap, you might want to purposefully trigger it and reset it a couple of times for your peace of mind! Need a hand?
