  • FAQs
  • How do I set up a mouse trap?

To set up a mouse trap safely, follow these steps:
    1. Place the Bait: Begin by applying bait (such as peanut butter, chocolate, or commercial rodent bait) on the bait cup or trigger area. A small amount is enough; overloading may interfere with the trap’s trigger sensitivity.
    2. Position the Trap Correctly: Place the trap where you’ve observed mouse activity, ideally along walls or in dark, enclosed spaces. Mice typically travel along walls, so positioning the trap perpendicular to the wall increases the chance of capture.
    3. Activate the Trap: Carefully pull back the spring-loaded bar until it locks into place behind the trigger. Ensure your fingers are clear of the trap mechanism while setting it to avoid injury.
    4. Check the Trap Regularly: Inspect the trap daily. If a mouse is caught, dispose of it promptly and reset the trap if needed.

    What bait should I use?

Peanut butter, chocolate spread or dried food scraps pressed firmly onto the trigger plate all work well. Press the bait on securely so the mouse has to pull at it to trigger the trap, rather than being able to take it without setting it off.

Where should I position mouse traps?

Place bait stations along walls and skirting, near suspected entry points, and in outbuildings, feed stores or anywhere signs of activity have been seen. Mice rarely cross open spaces, so routes along edges and corners are usually more effective than the middle of a room.

Which bait stations does this mouse trap fit?

This trap is designed to fit inside all our standard bait stations, including the Beta Bait Station and One Rat Bait Station. Housing the trap inside a station keeps it out of reach of children, pets and non-target wildlife.

Is this mouse trap safe to use around children and pets?

Used inside a lockable bait station, the trap is kept enclosed and out of reach. We'd always recommend housing the trap in a station such as the Beta Bait Station rather than setting it out unprotected, particularly anywhere children, pets or other animals have access.

How many mouse traps will I need?

This depends on the scale of the problem, but it's generally more effective to set several traps across known routes and entry points rather than relying on just one. For larger or ongoing infestations, our team can advise on a suitable setup for your site.
