All our 14 mm Seine Nets are fully rigged by hand, by ourselves, here at Collins Nets Ltd.
We use 1.0mm braided twine to rig the Nylon knotless netting to 10 mm low stretch quality rope with floats and leads or leadline.
Leadline is more suitable if you have a particularly silty bed.
The sizes listed here are our most popular options however, we can make a seine nets to any length or depth you require.
A Seine net can be pulled through the water in the manner of a trawl in addition to being used as stop nets to separate areas of water.
We add a sweep and handle to all 4 corners of our seine nets. Subsequently, this makes them easy to attach to a bridle or can be used by hand. The sweeps make longer nets that may get heavy as they are being maneuvered much easier to use.
Your Seine net should be 1½ times longer than the width of your water way. As a result, you will create a wide arch with the net when corralling the fish.
Once you have seined the length of your water you can use our Dip Nets and Fish Cages to retrieve and hold your fish.
Further guidance on using a seine net can be found on Page 10 of this IFCA Fish Survey Best Practice guide. Fish-survey-best-practice-guidance.pdf.
