What is a Fyke net used for?

Fyke nets (sometimes called funnel nets) are generally used for fishing on a fairly small scale.

They act as a fish and eel trap and are made from a series of cylindrical rings with funnel openings. The bag like shape means fish can swim in easily, but find difficult to get out. Fyke nets are normally staked between three points, using poles grounded into the seabed.
