What is a Seine net used for?

Seine Nets (sometimes called drag nets or beach seines) are long fishing nets with ropes on either end. They are used to herd fish into a confined area and are commonly used by fish farms, ecological contractors and environment agencies. Seine nets are incredibly versatile and are suitable for use in lakes and rivers. They can be deployed from the boat or shore.

Seine nets are commonly used as a barrier net for surveys. The net (seine) is held in the water with one person on each side. The bottom of the net has weights attached to hold it down, and the top is typically rigged with floats.
