How should a drysuit fit?

It’s important to choose the right size when purchasing a drysuit to ensure it is comfortable to wear both in and out the water. You should be able to fit an undersuit or thermal base layer underneath your suit, but there should not be lots of excess material. A drysuit that is too loose can snag on objects whilst working in lakes and rivers. There will also be too much space inside the suit, which will be difficult to heat and will cause you to get colder quicker.

On the other hand, having a drysuit that is too tight will restrict your movement and make it difficult to carry out tasks. Therefore, as a general rule of thumb, buy the smallest size that allows a good range of movement with layers underneath. Try on the suit, crouch down and walk around to get a feel for the suit.

We know that many rescue services and fisheries workers share suits, which can make sizing difficult.
