Agreement on International Humane Trapping Standards (AIHTS)

Defra ministers have now agreed that implementation of AIHTS (Agreement on International Humane Trapping Standards) has been delayed until 2018.
More information about this can be found at the following websites:
AIHTS will eventually affect many of the trapping solutions currently available – including the Mk4, Mk6 and Magnum Bodygrip traps.
Take a look at our Vermin Traps category here.
Thankfully for our farmers, gamekeepers and fisheries customers, there is a bit more time available and there is not a need to panic and rush into any decisions/purchases.

However the main likely consequences in the future are:

  • Cost of replacement traps
  • Modification of tunnels to suit replacement traps
  • Cost of deployment in the field
  • Restrictions on the use of Fenn traps (and maybe Magnum traps) as ‘universal’ traps in situations where they might catch stoats.

Perhaps by July 2018 we wont be obliged to implement AIHTS which is binding on all EU member states – as we may no longer be a part of it…

As more information becomes available we will endeavour to keep you updated.

CN 🙂
