Control of mink in England:

Trapping is the legal and most effective way of controlling mink. Live capture using a cage trap, followed by shooting, is the most appropriate method because it avoids the risk of harming non-target species. It is easy and humane and allows the release of non-target species such as the water vole.

Details as follows as per gov.uk website. Mink can be effectively trapped in the mating season (February to March) and when their young leave the den (August to November). You can use cage and spring traps, but you must:

• only use approved spring traps
• humanely kill all mink you catch

Traps should check at least once a day.

You can shoot free mink using a suitable firearm and ammunition.
